In-Service Testing and Inspections formerly known as PAT Testing.

PAT testing to your portable appliances is essential if you have employees or members of the public who use them.

A portable appliance is classified as any electrical appliance that is powered between 50 and 415 volts and is connected to the electrical mains by a cable and a plug.

They include photo copiers, IT equipment, computers, fridges, kettles, irons, music systems, vacuum cleaners, drills, washing machines etc.

The Health and Safety Executive quotes the Electricity at Work Regulation 4(2) which says 'As may be neccessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger''.

What dangers are they referring to? Electrical accidents. An electric shock potential can arise with faulty appliances which could seriously injure or kill someone. Damaged equipment can cause electrical fires.

Competent people are required by law to inspect and test the equipment and this does not have to be carried out by an electrician! Any trained member of staff can do the visual inspections but individuals need to be trained in how to use the portable appliance testers to test the appliances and to interpret the test results.

Having an electrician test your appliances means that the appliances may be repaired to a satisfactory standard and quicker. An electrician will also be able to inspect your sockets and ensure they are in a safe to use state.

My rates are competitive and are as follows.....

£30.00 for the first 10 items and £2.35 for each item after that.

Having been trained by SELECT to carry out In-Service Inspection and Testing, I create and keep a full log of all test results and this includes an Equipment Register.

On completion of the testing a Certificate is issued which is sufficient if you ever need to confirm when and by whom your last tests were carried out.
